This fresco secco began with my red geranium, and the shadows it casts on the studio wall on a sunny afternoon. The silhouettes of the petals are picked out in gold leaf in the background, the surface patinated with cracks and the faint texture of the hessian beneath the plaster. It is part of a repeating design I intend to develop one day into a wallpaper; for now it exists as this.
The design wraps around the edges of the panel, giving it a presence that works as a standalone piece or as a strong coordinate in a room scheme. A contemporary take on historical stripe decoration: vertical botanical and floral motifs on a distressed plaster ground, finished with hand-buffedclear wax for a soft, warm lustre.
A unique fresco secco original on hand-layered plaster and hessian, mounted on a bespoke wooden batten frame with wrap-around edges. Signed by me.
