An ornate letter S gilded in imitation silver leaf, framed by a crackly border and edged in silver dots. The source is the ornamental capitals of the Renaissance: formal, structured, and unashamedly decorative.
The plaster surface is worked in the same way as all the Alphabet panels: hand-layered on hessian, painted, then distressed back to reveal the layers beneath. The silver leaf sits against the aged ground in the way that precious things always look better for a little wear around the edges.
Finished with hand-buffed clear wax. Mounted on a bespoke wooden batten frame with wrap-around edges.
Dimensions: 31 × 31 × 4cm.
