Cotswold Dusk
Cotswold Dusk is a landscape design inspired by early 18th-century verdure painted cloths ~ decorative "imitation tapestries" traditionally filled with stylised trees and bold, woodblock-style outlines. This bucolic scene features the architectural silhouette of the Lodge at Thyme nestled in the distance, framed in the foreground by the sculptural form of the estate's Cedar of Lebanon.
The design is built around a crepuscular palette of lapis-inspired blues, indigos, and watery teals, capturing that mysterious entre chien et loup moment when the light begins to fail. A barn owl glides over the meadows, adding to the quiet, narrative mystery of the Cotswold twilight.
The original artwork was hand-painted full-scale as a fresco secco panel. I built the surface by working filler into open-weave hessian to create a textured ground, layering Chalk Paint washes to establish the depth of the dusk sky. The final panel was gently flexed to create the serendipitous cracks and patina of a timeworn antique, a detail faithfully preserved in this Giclée print.
Your print is produced on Hahnemühle German Etching paper ~ a heavy-duty copperplate paper with a velvety tactile feel and a fine surface texture. This substrate preserves the nuance of the original hand-painted marks and the "faded-and-distressed" patina of the mural.
Available in two sizes, each featuring a white border around the image to allow for easier mounting and framing.
