Mayoux Madder

from £100.00

Inspired by the intricate geometry of Indian woodblock prints, I painted Mayoux Madder in pale cream over a deep madder-red ground, defined throughout by strong black outlines. The design carries the soulful aesthetic of henna tattoos or ancient carved wood: rhythmic, botanical, and rooted in a tradition that treats ornament as a serious discipline. This piece provided the original inspiration for Rococo, a wallpaper and fabric collection I subsequently designed for Lewis & Wood. That collection went on to win the Homes & Gardens Design Award for Best Printed Fabric.

I worked this as a heavily distressed fresco secco original, and the Giclée process meticulously reproduces the shallow cracks, fissures, and rubbed-back areas where bare plaster is revealed beneath the pigment. The result carries the tactile, weathered character of a salvaged architectural fragment, with the precision of a modern fine-art edition.

The original hand-painted fresco secco panel is also available from my Shop.

Note: Your print is unframed. To ensure your print is versatile and gallery-ready, I have included the following:

  • A 5mm Image Overlap (Bleed): The design extends 5mm beyond the stated size. This ensures that if you place a mount over the top, the artwork is covered entirely with no white gaps.

  • A Professional White Border: Each print includes an additional 30mm–50mm white border on all sides. This gives you the flexibility to use a traditional card mount or to allow the paper itself to act as a contemporary framing device.

To ensure a perfect fit, I recommend waiting until your print arrives before purchasing or commissioning a custom frame, as very slight variations in paper size can occur during the Giclée printing process.
